Camp Bow Wow needed a refreshed design for their window vinyl coverings to reflect the playfulness and brightness of their branding.
On top of needing a refreshed design, I was tasked with solving an efficiency issue the creative team was facing with window vinyl requests while also keeping the system of over two hundred Franchise Owners satisfied. The issue the creative team was facing was an increase in the number of “specialty” requests when it came to window vinyl coverings. Accommodating these requests greatly increased production time and diluted CBW’s external look and feel. The goal with the new design was to keep the set of materials standardized while also giving Owners a say in their coverings to solve both of these issues. The new design and catalog approach allows Owners to pick from a standard set of design choices which helps increase brand awareness across each location.

For Camp Bow Wow, window vinyl coverings serve two purposes - safety and advertising. The material of the coverings solves the safety need while the design was created thoughtfully to advertise the company’s services and establish brand recognition no matter what Camp location someone may be visiting. They also help build brand awareness to passersby and plant the seed of who Camp Bow Wow is and what they do. The design also needed to be flexible so it could work with any size window, horizontal or vertical, big or small.
The old vinyl design was white and frequently got lost on the facade of many Camp buildings and also made it more difficult to feature lighter colored dogs. To combat this issue and make the design reflect the personality of the brand, I incorporated each of Camp Bow Wow’s core brand colors. This also allowed me to feature more lighter colored dog breeds; this was important as many of Camp Bow Wow’s most popular dog breeds have a lighter colored coat, such as Golden Retrievers, Yellow Labs, and Goldendoodles.

Since window vinyl coverings serve as an advertisement and aid in building brand recognition, it was important the design reflected who Camp Bow Wow is and what they do. This is why there’s multiple indicators on each vinyl indicating which service is being advertised.
The dog image is the focus of the design as they are integral in grabbing a viewers attention. Each image relates to the service being offered so it quickly communicates to passersby without needing to read further.
The text is there to further solidify what the image is displaying and confirms the services offered at Camp.
The yellow icon is carried over from Camp Bow Wow’s website and helps make that visual connection with those customers who have visited our website.
Lastly, a faint paw print pattern was included to create texture and bring more movement and playfulness to the design.

As mentioned earlier, I was tasked with solving the unique problem of providing a standardized set of materials while also making sure Franchise Owners got a say in the design process. I did this by first establishing the base design but knew each design would be expanded on to have 2-3 versions of each. These options were then outlined in a comprehensive catalog that is passed on to Owners that submit a request inquiring about window vinyl coverings.
Over the years, I’ve realized there is an extensive process to getting window vinyl coverings on a Camp. This process is usually explained to Camps via email and became quite tedious and ate up a lot of time. With my years of experience with this process, I created the catalog to be a resource for both Camps and the creative team. It outlines a step-by-step process for getting window vinyl coverings, the Camp’s design choices, and ensures the team has all necessary resources and information to start and complete the request.
Above you will see two possibilities of window vinyl covering layouts that are possible. You’ll notice there’s a mix of both small and large breed dogs which communicates to viewers that all dogs are accepted at Camp Bow Wow and creates a nice visual balance.
THE IMPORTANCE OF OPTIONS
Above are a couple of pages taken from the Window Vinyl Catalog that is passed on to owners when they inquire about getting coverings for their Camp. Page one (left) outlines all prerequisites for getting vinyl coverings, which has been an integral part of making this process more efficient. The other two pages outline CBW’s “taglines” and “dog only” covering options. These options were designed to accommodate Camps with a large amount of windows needing to be covered, a scenario that had posed issues in the past.
